It is hard to believe that the English premier league is almost 20 years old. It seems like only yesterday that Sky caused shockwaves when they announced the deal they had reached to broadcast all the games. Of course a big part of the shock was the price they were paying, which seemed astronomical at the time.

Nearly 2 decades on and the changes in football in England have been immense. The first change many people will recognise is the wages. The top premiership players now earn eye watering salaries of well over £100,000 a week. By any standards this is a stunning reward for their efforts.

The high wages have caused some fans some disquiet and it certainly has introduced a huge gulf between fans and players. But this is the way the Market works. If there was no money they couldn’t be paid at the levels they currently are.

The whole experience of attending football matches have been enormously improved in the last 20 years. With all the terraces gone, crushes are a thing of the past. Many of the leading teams such as Man United have massively improved their stadium. Others including Arsenal & Man City have moved to new purpose built stadiums.

One of the great and unexpected features of the premier league is the large number of clubs who have played in it. Small teams you would never expect such as Blackpool, Barnsley, Hull City and Swansea have managed it for a season. Other teams such as Wigan have not only got to the premiership they have actually stayed for several years and become established. This really is a great achievement.

With the advent of the champions league the money in football increased even more and this has attracted overseas businessmen who saw an opportunity. Nearly half the clubs have overseas owners with Man City currently setting the pace. Their cash injection from the Middle East has totally transformed the club and seems to have made them genuine title contenders.

Obtaining tickets for the leading clubs such as United, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool is not as easy as it was. They all have supporters not only from all corners of the UK but the world as well. But it is well worth the effort as the players on display at those clubs really are some of the best in the world.

With the combination of smooth, excellent pitches, great players and a desire to entertain watching the top clubs is an experience that will stick in your memory for ever.

Ten years ago most people would have drawn a blank at the mention of BASE jumping, a fringe extreme sport that involves throwing one’s self from cliffs and buildings with a parachute. Today, even those in their Golden Years are familiar with the sport, and might even be familiar with some of the technical terminology. But BASE jumping will forever remain primarily a novelty activity due to its high risk and limited accessibility. For those individuals with the desire to participate in such an intense activity more than vicariously through the rare few willing to risk their lives, there is a new sport on the verge of exploding. It’s called Speed Flying and although far safer than BASE jumping, the adrenaline factor is only one notch less.

Speed Flying is in its infancy now, but like many adventure sports before it, is quickly gaining traction as a familiar sport to the masses. This traction is building in a form beyond the typical flood of online videos however; mainstream individuals are actually participating in it. Most likely you are wondering what exactly this hot new sport is, and maybe even how you might get involved. Read on to be enlightened.

The sport is simple: a participant hikes up a mountain with a small and light fabric wing packed on their back, inflates and launches from a suitable patch of clear ground, then screams down the mountain at breakneck speeds, slaloming through natural terrain features on the way down. The thought of this either excites you or scares you, or both. For those that find themselves immediately drifting toward the scared side of the spectrum, it should be noted that the thought of this activity is more frightening than actually doing it. Like with anything else, knowledge replaces mystery, which is the root of most fear. Let’s dispel some of the mystery of Speed Flying.

A combination of skydiving, paragliding and BASE jumping, it would seem Speed Flying should be more dangerous than any one of these other sports. But the beauty is that it shares the most exciting aspects of each activity, but not the high risk elements. For example, it shares with BASE jumping the intense anticipation of standing at the edge of a cliff or mountain preparing to jump, but does not share the high risk aspect of depending upon a perfect parachute opening to survive. In common with paragliding is a high performance wing that creates a true pilot out of its operator, but with a much more rigid airfoil that nearly eliminates the risk of collapse associated with a paragliding wing. Like skydiving, it is possible to make multiple flights in a day, but at one-fifth the cost (thus reducing the risk to one’s financial well-being).

It might seem like a sport of this nature would take weeks or months to learn, but in reality an individual can go from zero experience to proficient in a few days time, without needing to take any “leaps of faith”. First flights are on a large wing from a bunny hill, gaining only a few feet of altitude for less than 10 seconds. Within an hour, a student can be flying from 200 feet, and by the end of the day, flights from over 500 feet are possible. All the while, wing size will be gradually stepped down from Sedan to Coupe. Over the following days, the safe transition to sports car will be the goal. At this point in the training, a student will have a good feel for what type of flying they enjoy, and can focus their learning objectives toward that end. Some individuals will want to rip down the mountain as fast as possible, while others will prefer “boozy cruisy” flights at speeds much faster than a paraglider, but not so fast that the scenery cannot be enjoyed. There is something for everybody.

As is always the case with any new endeavor, taking the first step is the hardest. In this instance, that step is making a quick phone call or sending a short email to a local Speed Flying school. Be prepared though, taking this initiative will very likely result in adding an element of excitement to your life that will have you quickly shifting your priorities. Get ready for the ride of your life.

With the Olympics just around the corner it seems that everyone is getting prepared for the event taking place next year. Team GB is getting themselves well organized for the games and intends on representing our country buy being the best they can be. However a lot of speculation has come forward that the cycling team will not win as much as they had hoped.

In 2008 at the Beijing Olympics, the British team won 8 gold medals for their efforts in the games. A performance director has announced that they will not win as many gold medals as they did at the previous Olympic Games as some of the actual competitions are changing and altering at the London 2012 games.

Cyclists Chris Hoy, Mark Cavendish, Victoria Pendleton and Bradley Wiggins will all be taking part in the London 2012 Olympics and hoping to achieve their dream gold medals. The change in the games however may mean that their hopes of glory are dashed and that their gold medals will not even be achievable.

Winning on home soil means a lot to these competitors and now their dreams of gold in London next year are becoming more and more unlikely. The team has spoken about this statement and they are sure that their efforts to succeed at the Olympics next year will be rewarded and they are practising their skills and putting the time in to be the very best that they can be.

We are sure that the cycling team of Team GB will do us proud next year and try their upmost to win those medals and achieve their glory. The country is well behind the team and supporting them all the way. More and more people are looking at the Olympic Games for inspiration in taking up a new sport.

With the popularity and talk of the London Olympics comes more sporting events and more people taking part in sports and trying their hand at new sporting activities. Cycling is one sport that can be taken up by pretty much anyone of any fitness level and can be done anywhere, anytime and is a great sport that many choose to keep themselves fit and healthy.

Choosing to cycle requires you to purchase a good quality bike and finding one that suits you down to the ground need not be a difficult task. Depending on your experience and how often you are going to be spending riding will very much depend on the model you need. There are many places that sell great bikes and cycling equipment and by investigating this exciting sport you will gain a glimpse into the life of a true cyclist.

In the game of football there are five items that make up the kit. One of them is the soccer jersey. It is mandatory that the soccer jersey has sleeves which could be either long or short. The of the goalkeeper is completely different to that of the players so that he could be easily identifiable on the field. The referees are normally in black although now there is a tendency for them to wear other colours. The of the players of the National teams is in the colours of the country. For instance the Australians wear their in the colours of green and gold while the Dutch team will wear orange to symbolize the colours of Dutch Royalty.

The early sixties saw the soccer jersey go from being a buttoned down shirt to ones that had V necks or crew necks. The colours were solid so that when they played under lights they would be visible. The also sported the team logos.

Over the next two decades with the popularity of the sport further on the rise company sponsorships were beginning and their logos too needed a place on the soccer jersey. The size of the logo is dependent upon the rules.

Towards the end of the twentieth century the soccer jersey was made of lighter material and the replicas of the of popular players found a niche market. The is made of a polyester mesh that dries the sweat easily and keeps the body cool.

The soccer jersey sports the number of the player and his name or nickname above or below it. The numbers usually denote the position of the player with each position on the field having a number. The captain of the team will have a distinguishing band or something to denote his status to the referee and the team supporters.

The availability of replica jerseys allows for fans to wear the replica of their favourite player to matches or just about anywhere. The colourful jerseys of most of the popular players are available on many online stores on the internet and they could be obtained at very reasonable prices.

It is not the men only who wear the jerseys. With women entering the football field, they too wear similar jerseys, logos and all.

Should you be a football fan, get into the spirit of the game and get your own Soccer Jersey in the colours of your favourite team.
